Bookkeeper

Definition

Under general/administrative direction, the Bookkeeper will oversee the district’s financial data and compliance by maintaining accurate books on accounts payable and receivable, payroll and daily financial entries and reconciliations. Perform daily accounting tasks such as monthly financial reporting, general ledger entries, and recording payments and adjustments.

Work hours are 7AM to 3:30PM Monday through Friday

Examples of Duties

  • Perform All Aspects of: Accounts payable, accounts receivable, human resources, payroll preparation and reporting, reviewing transactions for completeness, accuracy, and proper authorization, posting, and balancing accounts, preparing financial reports for Board meetings, and assisting the auditor in the preparation of annual reports. Maintains complicated/confidential files.
  • Perform Customer Service: Answer phones, direct messages as appropriate; greet/assist office visitors, take water orders, filing, and follow up on Correspondence as required.
  • Grants: Apply for and track expenditures on grants, copy invoices, maintain files, and file reports to Grantor, request reimbursements and maintain schedules as provided by grant procedures.
  • Budget: Assist Manager on the preparation of Annual Budget.
  • Water User Billing and Water Rights: Process and print water user’s monthly and annual billing; maintain the district’s water right billing database, help maintain accurate records of District water rights and assist in ownership changes.

Typical Physical Activities

  • Routine office practices; sitting for extended time periods, filing, sorting, answering phones, computer data entry, 10 Key, etc.
  • May be asked to lift and carry up to 20 pounds on occasion.
  • Hearing and vision within normal range

Qualifications

  • Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the necessary knowledge and abilities in qualifying.
  • A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
    Education: Bachelor’s or Associates Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
    Experience: 3+ years’ experience as a bookkeeper
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting and payroll laws and practices, computer software, especially accounting, billing, and spreadsheets.
